Chaim Soutine was a French/Russian painter who contributed to the Paris Expressionist Movement and is one of the artists responsible for the bridge between expressionism and abstract expressionism. Soutine studied in Vilnius and then at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris.
Chaim Soutine was a close friend of Modigliani, who painted several portraits of him. The famous American collector Alfred Barnes bought 60 Soutine paintings when he met Soutine and saw his work. Soutine’s work is very collectible and his highest priced painting was sold by Christie’s in 2015 for $28 million.
