Georges Seurat was a Post-Impressionist and Pointillist artist born in Paris. He studied at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts and then set himself up in a studio working at monochrome drawing. Seurat’s most famous pointillism painting is A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. This painting took him 2 years to complete and is now displayed at The Art Institute of Chicago. The painting is very large being 10 feet wide.
Seurat’s painting Bathers at Asnieres is another famous Pointillism oil painting by the artist which was completed to large scale being 2mtrs x 3mtrs.
Seurat died at only 31 years old and his paintings are said to have inspired the Cubist artists.
