Isaac Israels was Dutch painter and son of the famous painter Jozef Israels of the Hague School. He studied in The Hague and the family made regular trips to France. In 1904 Israels moved to Paris and set up a studio but moved to London at the outbreak of WW1. Isaac Israels became a celebrated portrait painter of famous figures of the age, notably Mata Hari. After the war Israels traveled extensively in the Far East and painted many scenes in Bali. He returned to the Hague to live for the rest of his life, but made regular visits to London, Paris and Italy.
