Italian painter Umberto Boccioni is known for his Futurist paintings. He was born in Northern Italy but moved with his family as a child to Sicily. Boccioni studied in Rome and was friends with Gino Severini, whose Futurist style is very similar. Both Boccioni and Severini became students of Giacomo Balla, who was focusing on the modern Divisionist technique. Boccioni studied Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting in Paris, and also visited Russia. Umberto Boccioni died when he was just 35 years old but he created some very famous paintings during his short life as a member of the Italian Futurist Movement.
