Fauvism, from the French for wild beasts, is a movement which started in 1905 and lasted only a few years. Despite this, fauvism oil paintings are still well regarded in the field. The main artists of the "Fauves", as they were to become known, are Henri Matisse and Andre Derain. The term came about because of the use of strong color and wild brushstrokes in their paintings. This made for some remarkable fauvism oil paintings. Woman with a Hat 1905 is an oil painting by Henri Matisse which epitomizes the characteristics of Fauvism for example, and this painting, along with others, are available as fauvism replicas. The Fauvist artists were influenced by the Post-Impressionist work of Van Gogh, of Paul Cezanne, and the Tahiti paintings by Paul Gauguin.
